National Geographic SocietyStorytelling since 1888
Each year, National Geographic Society brings together a community of photographers, filmmakers , journalists, and storytellers for a series of mainstage speaking events, workshops and industry networking at its annual Storytellers Summit in Washington, D.C. As the creative director for our Signature Events portfolio, I worked with a team of designers and event production experts to craft the creative vision and execution of the 2025 Storytellers Summit experience. The concept for the event was “Through the Lens,” an homage to the valuable perspective that storytellers across disciplines offer us when they share their work.“Through the Lens” came to life through a visual identity system centered around the Lens Type device – a circular typographic element locked up with the event logo, but also used as a graphic element on materials throughout the marketing, environmental design and mainstage motion graphics.
Storytelling since 1888 became the unifying tagline and theme of the event, a nod to National Geographic’s legendary status in the photography and storytelling space. This was brought to life by an 8-foot lenticular-esque backdrop featuring the tagline from one angle and a photo from the other, based on the visual design system detailed in the event style guide.
